Recent Developments in Judicial Review

Khawar will provide an overview of recent case law relating to the practice, procedure and scope of Judicial Review to illustrate the potential use of Judicial Review in the commercial and regulatory context. Khawar has advised on many judicial review matters concerning the Home Office, the FSA and the Serious Fraud Office amongst others and was counsel to the Home Secretary in the 'Natwest 3' and 'Ian Norris; extradition cases.

 

The Illegality Defense: Use and Abuse

Expanding law and regulation increases the use for defences based on a claimant's illegal conduct. Craig will examine when such defences will succeed and how they can be overcome, especially in the light of the House of Lords decision in Stone and Rolls v Moore Stephens.

Forum Battles

Stephen will review recent developments in the law relating to jurisdiction clauses, forum challenges and anti-suit injunctions.

Funding Litigation in the post-Jackson Era

Jeremy, who was one of the assessors to the Jackson Review of Civil Litigation Costs, will look at the range of funding options if the Jackson recommendations are implemented. He will consider the advice that solicitors will have to give to their clients on funding.
